Feeling the summer slump?

☀️ Feeling the Summer Slump?

It seems like every time I talk to a mom friend, I hear mom guilt bubbling up:
"My kids are on screens all the time."
"It’s too hot to go outside."
"They’re eating me out of house and home."
"They won’t stop fighting!"

Managing kids with endless free time is no small task. And while there’s no magic formula to make summer smooth and screen-free, a few simple shifts can help you feel more like yourself—and create more meaningful moments with your kids.

Moms, when you take care of yourself, everyone benefits. 💛

🌼 Try the S.U.M.M.E.R. Reset

A gentle framework to help you stay centered and sane (yes, even in July):

S — Stay active

U — Unplug daily to rest your mind

M — Make time for family, friends, and connection

M — Maintain a balanced diet with fresh foods

E — Enjoy the sunshine

R — Recharge with rest, water, and reflection

S | Stay Active

Just move your body—no perfection required! Even 10 minutes makes a difference.
✅ Try a quick workout while your littles join in
✅ Squeeze in movement while your teens are still sleeping
✅ Dance around the kitchen or stretch on the porch

A little movement can boost endorphins, raise dopamine levels, and help you feel like a stronger version of yourself.

🎥 Here are a few of my favorite free workouts from PopSugar Fitness:

U | Unplug Daily

Give yourself (and your kids) some screen-free time—every day.
📵 Toss the phones in a basket and break out a board game
📚 Send everyone to a different room with a book or coloring page
📖 If you're up early, skip scrolling—try journaling or reading a few pages of a book

Just a few moments away from screens can make a big difference in your energy and focus.

M | Make Time for Connection

Be intentional about adult time—it matters.

  • Invite friends over for a low-key pizza night

  • Meet another mom at the pool or beach while the kids play

  • Set a goal to connect with one other adult each week

Connection doesn’t have to be complicated—just real.

M | Maintain a Balanced Diet

Summer is full of popsicles and chips—and that’s okay! This isn’t about restriction.
Try this simple goal: add fruits or veggies to every meal 🍓🥒

  • Slice apples or strawberries for lunch

  • Serve cucumbers and carrots with dinner

  • Keep fruit washed and visible for easy snacking

Let summer’s abundance support your energy and mood—without stress or guilt.

E | Enjoy the Sunshine

Yes, it’s hot—but that sunshine can work wonders. 🌞
Aim for early mornings or cooler evenings, or find ways to soak up light near water.

Sunshine benefits include:

  1. Boosting Vitamin D (great for bones, immune system, and mood)

  2. Improving serotonin levels for better mood

  3. Supporting better sleep by regulating your circadian rhythm

  4. Strengthening immune function

  5. Helping certain skin conditions (in small doses)

  6. Encouraging movement and time outdoors

🧴 Just remember SPF, shade, and hydration!

R | Recharge

You need breaks too—real ones.

  • Fill up a cute water bottle twice a day

  • Schedule a quiet hour (hello, movie time from 3–5!)

  • Make a quick list of 2–5 minute self-care options you can actually do

Here are a few to start:

🧘‍♀️ Body & Breath

  • Take 5 deep belly breaths

  • Do a neck roll or gentle stretch

  • Step outside and feel the breeze

🧠 Mind & Mood

  • Jot down 3 things you’re grateful for

  • Say a positive affirmation

  • Close your eyes and visualize a peaceful place
